I love a restaurant with character, and that’s something there’s no shortage of at the North Shore Inn.
The North Shore Inn is wedged between the edge of the Harbor Shores golf course and a new neighborhood development. The golf cart path runs along one side of the restaurant and the spectator path along the other.
Its location is random, its menu is not: burgers everyday, Mexican sometimes.
This restaurant has a vintage decor that screams old school basement rec room.
The wood-paneled rec-room look is decorated with murals, oversized images of bullfights, a bull horn mounted on the ceiling and of course, a free-standing ATM in this cash only operation. A bar takes up the center of the restaurant, and it’s littered with regular barflys, the owner, Tom, and his laptop.
Despite it’s basement charm, the building is well-taken care of and very clean. It was built in either 1888 or 1892, and its owners are currently enhancing the exterior with fresh paint and a new awning.
Nearly everything is deep friend and delicious. The burgers at the North Shore are absolutely delicious. Hand packed and ill-shaped, they arrive at the table cooked to perfection.
The french fries and other sides come in half or full portions, and the sizing is generous.
Not content with its burger popularity, the restaurant is also well-known for having the best Mexican food in the area as well. Anna, is the restaurant’s new Mexican specialty chef and nearly every week her weekly special is posted to the North Shore Inn’s Facebook page. Despite its reputation for tasty Mexican cuisine, I sneak into the restaurant quite often and always order a burger. Click here for a link to their Facebook page.
The waitress is friendly and speedy (despite being eight months pregnant!). I always have the same waitress and she’s amazing. Lately, I have wondered how long she’ll be on maternity leave….if there’s another waitress, I haven’t seen her, and besides, I like going to a restaurant where everything is the same each time, and each time it’s awesome.
This is a cash only operation. Bring cash or your ATM card! Many people in the area consider the North Shore Inn hamburger to be the best burger in the area, as a result, the restaurant is very popular. Located near the 13th hole, the cart path runs up against the restaurant, making it popular with both cars and golf cart drivers! Many of my local friends have told me that they’re trying to squeeze as many “off-season visits” in now, as when the tourists come, burgers will be hard to come by.
