The Ideal Place is an intimate bistro in the heart of Benton Harbor’s Arts District and it’s the ideal place for a good meal in a charming space.
I first heard about the Ideal Place from a local antiques dealer. He raved about Wednesday nights at the restaurant which hosts specials that are popular with the locals.
In addition to great cuisine, the restaurant has a well-rounded bar featuring a selection of domestic craft beers which serves draft beer in Howlers to go. It also has a great cocktail selection. I sampled two mojitos over dinner, and wasn’t disappointed.
The Ideal Place sits in a lovely old building on a corner in Benton Harbor’s Arts District. A colorful mural is painted on the side of the building and there’s plenty of parking next to the restaurant.
As you enter the restaurant, a large bar with exposed brick greets you.The decor is modern and cosy, and in keeping with the spirit of its surroundings, artwork (which is available for purchase) decorates the space.
We had a great mix of food, and enjoyed everything. From the vegetable egg rolls (which we ordered two orders of), to the salads and chicken specials–everything was solid and tasty.
I have found the dining experiences in Benton Harbor to be elevated and more noteworthy than the dining options in its classier cousin, St. Joseph. With plentiful parking and pleasant ambiance, a casual-trendy crowd, I’ve been surprised and delighted by the dining experiences in Benton Harbor. The dining has been reasonably priced (The Ideal Place is no exception) and no reservation was needed, making the dining experience feel like a fun, local dining adventure.
Wednesday nights at the restaurant is a popular nights at the Ideal Place. On Wednesdays, Asian-style ribs are served. On Thursdays the restaurant features discounted oysters and martinis.
The Ideal Place is a great place for a casual dinner with friends and family!
