Restaurant Review: Pizza At The Original Cottage Inn, Ann Arbor: It Was Grape!

Lately, I’ve had a great time eating at restaurants that are time honored traditions in town. Amazing but true, there are a few institutions in this town that I haven’t eaten at.

This week I dined at the Original Cottage Inn for the first time.

Cottage Inn pizza is an Ann Arbor institution, and is only slightly less famous in this town (depending on who you ask) than that other home town pizzeria: Dominos.

The Original Cottage Inn has been serving pizza since 1948 and has the distinction of being the first restaurant in Ann Arbor to serve pizza.

Today, the original restaurant is much larger than it was in 1948, with two floors, banquet facilities and a popular lunchtime pizza buffet.

The decor of the Original Cottage Inn is cheesy (couldn’t help it, sorry). With green grape vines painted on the walls and a gigantic bunch of purple grapes suspended from the ceiling.

No one is visiting this place for the ambiance.

The restaurant offers a diverse menu of Italian and Greek dishes as well as Sicilian-style, deep-dish pizza.

We ordered the “Best of Cottage Inn” pizza. A deep dish pizza with a sesame seed crust. It featured pepperoni, Italian sausage, Parmesan, Brick, and mozzarella cheeses. The sauce was sweet and the dough was fresh and tasty.

Both of us agreed that the pizza was yummy and especially liked the sesame seed crust.

We also sampled a brownie sundae and thought it was quite delicious as well.

Our server was friendly and proud of the restaurant’s beer selection. I ordered a Bell’s Oberon and mentioned I liked Michigan beers. The waiter asked if I was familiar with a Brewery from northern Michigan called, “Shorts“. He told me they brewed great beer and brought me a sample. I thought the beer was quite tasty, and am considering driving up to Bellaire, Michigan to visit their pub.

Next trip perhaps?

I’m glad I finally took the time to done at the Original Cottage Inn. The food is average casual dining fare. The pizza a little above average. The service was very attentive.

If you go, be sure to book your table via Open Table. I am a big fan of this at home and in Mexico. Booking your table via this website or app allows you to collect points you can convert into cash for dining!! This makes your meal a rewarding experience in more ways than one!

Have an awesome weekend. We’re planning to try a few {turkey} burger joints this weekend and enjoy the sunshine.

Wherever you go, and whatever you do, I hope you make the most of it!!!
