@MaisonTheodor: Testing Out Theodor Tea House

There’s something relaxing about visiting a tea house.

Theodor is a luxury brand of French tea. Established in 2002 by Frenchman Guillaume Leleu, Theodor has become synonymous with prestigious, high quality fair trade tea. Emphasis is placed on ingredient quality, taste and artistry in blending. In just 10 short years, Theodor has become a standard of excellence throughout the world.
20121216-161100.jpgLeleu began blending his teas in an antique French creamery. Today, the loose teas are sold in tin cans that look very similar to vintage milk cans. As of two months ago, there’s a brand new Thedor tea store in Polanco. Employees at the new store were quite keen to demonstrate the stackability of the tea tins–if you’re in the market for multiples, good news: they stack!
20121216-161449.jpgThe store in Polanco is a decent size. The shelves are stocked with more than 300 different types of teas for you to select from. The store also has seating areas inside and outside.

When I walked into the Mexico City store I was overwhelmed. There were charts, brochures and a bunch of sales staff asking me to smell this, that and the other canister in an effort to decide what I might like. The tea charts were so large, I couldn’t even photograph them to show you. They were also colorful and detailed.

Despite my sensory overload, everything smelled wonderful. All of the ingredients are 100% natural and everything is entirely Kosher.

Theodor is a trendy tea experience. The shop in Mexico City is not far from some of the more popular hotels in Polanco: the W, Marriott and Intercontinental. A cheery store, it’s brand new. When I stopped by painters were decorating, furniture was everywhere and they were working on assembling a quiet room, presumably for working or studying.

Theodor is nicely situated between hotels, cafes and restaurants. Its location makes it the perfect place to stop and sip tea with a friend. Once the paint dries and the furniture is in place, I plan to return. I’m hoping they’ll have wireless so I can sit down and stay a while!
