Fantasias Miguel: Like Michael’s Arts and Crafts, But Better!

I love Michael’s Arts and Crafts stores.

It’s not that I’m the craftiest person in the world.

I’m creative.

I have handy tendencies.

But I’m definitely no Martha Stewart (image taken from her website).20121215-201603.jpgBut, there’s something about walking into a store where your potential is endless that is really appealing to me.

In Mexico, there are few stores that sell a variety of items. If you want to purchase a present for someone, you’ll need to visit one store to purchase the present, a second to purchase the wrapping paper, a third to secure the tape and a fourth to purchase a greeting card.

Nothing is simple here.

So when my cab sped past a store called Fantasias Miguel, I immediately knew what it was: Mexico’s answer to Michael’s Arts and Crafts. What I did not know at the time is that Famtasias Miguel is even better!!
20121215-202931.jpgA few weeks passed and I returned to the store with a friend and her crafty buddy. When we walked in, I was amazed. You enter the store and head downstairs. The first thing you see is an incredibly massive jewelry counter. There are beads, clasps, necklaces, tutorials and a lot of staffers ready to teach you how to make jewelry. There are tutorials on rotating displays and tutorials hanging on large boards over the counter.
20121215-203320.jpgBecause it’s Christmas, there are trees throughout the store to inspire you, and staffers wearing Christmas headbands to compliment their normal uniforms, ready to assist you.
20121215-210514.jpgThere are tons and tons of displays.

There are displays that show you how to decorate styrofoam ornaments using sacks of glitter….
20121215-205118.jpgThere are displays that show you how to decorate ordinary, boring letters amd make them fancy for your wall…
20121215-205323.jpgAnd aisles and aisles of nothing but ribbon!

There are displays that showcase do-it-yourself ornament options.

20121215-211355.jpg There’s even an aisle that has nothing but pinwheels!

20121215-211630.jpgIn short, they have a lot of everything–which is not only inspiring, but exciting in a city with a de-centralized system of shopping.

I’m excited that I’ve discovered Fantasias Miguel. It will make school projects so much easier to shop for.

One stop shopping!

And, once I find some free time, I’m planning to wander around Fantasias Miguel and attempt a few of those projects from one of the many displays!

  1. !Que magnifico! That is one of the bazillion things I love when I am not in America–specialty shops! Don’t get me wrong I love me my Target and one-stop shopping out of laziness, but NOTHING compares to taking a Sunday afternoon and browsing around shops dedicated to stationery or candy or in this case, crafts. How delightfully whimsical there is an entire aisle dedicated to pinwheels! Your photos are so colorful and make me just want to get the heck out of the States for good ;)
